What distinguishes a serious area converter from a marketing widget is honesty about precision. The factor 1 m² ≈ 10.7639 ft² is not exact; it is a six-significant-figure rounding of the non-terminating quotient 1/0.09290304 = 10.7639104167…. The exact relationship runs the other way: 1 ft² is exactly 0.09290304 m². Two definitional shortcuts worth memorising: 1 acre = exactly 43,560 ft² (= 4840 yd²), and 1 mi² = exactly 640 acres (the "section" of the US Public Land Survey System).
