Genshin pity calculator. Exact odds of pulling the featured 5-star from your current pity.

A Genshin pity calculator computes your chance of pulling the featured 5-star given your current pity, 50/50 status, and remaining pulls. It models soft pity from pull 74, hard pity at 90, Capturing Radiance, and the weapon banner's Epitomized Path with 1 Fate Point.

What is the Genshin Impact pity system?

The Genshin Impact pity system is the set of drop-rate rules that guarantees you a 5-star character or weapon after enough unsuccessful wishes. On the Character Event banner and the Standard banner, every wish has a flat 0.6% base rate for a 5-star up through pull 73. From pull 74 onward you enter soft pity — the per-pull chance climbs sharply until it reaches 100% at pull 90, which is hard pity. On the Weapon Event banner, the base rate is 0.7%, soft pity starts at pull 63, and hard pity lands at pull 80. The Standard banner has no featured unit, so every 5-star comes from the permanent pool.
On top of the raw rates, the Character Event banner has the 50/50 rule: when you roll a 5-star, there is a 50% chance it is the featured character and a 50% chance it is a random standard 5-star. If you lose the 50/50, the next 5-star from that same banner is guaranteed to be the featured unit — HoYoverse calls this the lose-next-win-after failsafe.
Since Version 5.0 (August 2024), HoYoverse also introduced Capturing Radiance, which adds a 10% chance that a "lost" 50/50 is silently upgraded to the featured character. The practical effect is that your not-guaranteed coin flip is closer to 55/45 in your favor, while hard pity, soft pity, and the failsafe all still work the same way.
The Weapon Event banner uses a different system called the Epitomized Path. You pick one of two featured weapons. When a 5-star weapon drops, there is a 75% chance it is a featured weapon and a 25% chance it is a standard one. If you get the featured weapon that is not your chosen one, you gain 1 Fate Point. As of Version 5.0, 1 Fate Point is enough to guarantee your chosen weapon on the next 5-star drop — the worst-case cost is 160 pulls (25,600 Primogems) for your chosen weapon.

How to calculate your Genshin pity odds

Our Genshin pity calculator does the math for you in four inputs. Here is how to fill them in accurately.
1. Select the banner type. Choose Character Event, Weapon Event, or Standard. Each uses its own base rate, soft-pity start, and hard-pity ceiling, so the banner choice alone changes your odds significantly.
2. Enter your current pity. This is the number of wishes you have made since your last 5-star drop. The counter resets to 0 every time you pull any 5-star, featured or not. If you just started the banner fresh, enter 0.
3. Toggle the guaranteed switch. If your previous 5-star on this banner was a non-featured standard character (that is, you lost the last 50/50), turn the guaranteed toggle on. The calculator will then treat every 5-star you roll as guaranteed to be the featured unit. On the Weapon banner, the equivalent is whether you already have 1 Fate Point.
4. Enter your pull budget. You can type it directly as a number of wishes, or convert it from your Primogems using 160 Primogems = 1 Intertwined Fate = 1 wish. So 16,000 Primogems equals 100 pulls.
The calculator returns four numbers: the probability of pulling the featured 5-star within your budget, the probability of pulling any 5-star, the expected number of pulls needed on average, and the 95th-percentile worst-case pulls. A plain-English verdict chip turns the raw percentage into something like "very likely", "coin flip", or "unlikely — save more".

Genshin per-pull 5-star probability formula

P5(n)={r0if n<sr0+k(ns+1)if sn<h1if n=hP_{5\star}(n) = \begin{cases} r_0 & \text{if } n < s \\ r_0 + k \cdot (n - s + 1) & \text{if } s \leq n < h \\ 1 & \text{if } n = h \end{cases}
  • nn = Pull index since your last 5-star (1-indexed)
  • r0r_0 = Base rate: 0.006 on Character/Standard, 0.007 on Weapon
  • ss = Soft pity start: 74 on Character/Standard, 63 on Weapon
  • hh = Hard pity pull: 90 on Character/Standard, 80 on Weapon
  • kk = Soft-pity ramp ≈ 10 × r_0 per pull (about +6% per pull on Character)
The per-pull rate is flat at the base rate until you hit soft pity, after which it grows linearly by roughly ten times the base rate per pull. On the Character banner this means your odds jump from 0.6% at pull 73 to about 6.6% at pull 74, then climb by ~6% per pull until they hit 100% at pull 90 — this is the shape confirmed by the community 260-million-pull dataset and the KQM Theorycrafting Library.
Once you have the per-pull rate, the calculator runs a dynamic program over (pity counter, guaranteed flag) states. For the Character banner it layers on the 50/50 split plus the 10% Capturing Radiance upgrade chance (effective 55/45), and for the Weapon banner it layers on the 75/25 featured split plus the 1-Fate-Point failsafe. Everything is computed analytically — no random simulation — so the same inputs always return the same exact probability.
On the Character banner, 5-star pulls with the failsafe take two hard-pity cycles in the worst case: up to 90 pulls to trigger the first 5-star, then up to 90 more where the next 5-star is guaranteed to be the featured unit. That is why 180 pulls (28,800 Primogems) is the hard-ceiling cost to 100% guarantee any featured character.

Genshin pity calculator examples

Fresh banner, 90 pulls available, not guaranteed

You start a new Character Event banner at pity 0 and have exactly 90 pulls saved (14,400 Primogems). Because hard pity is 90, the chance of getting at least one 5-star is 100%. The chance that this 5-star is the featured character is about 62.5% — half the time you win the 50/50 outright, plus an extra ~5% from Capturing Radiance and a small probability of pulling two 5-stars within 90 pulls and triggering the lost-50/50 failsafe on the second one. Expected pulls to your first 5-star from pity 0 on this banner is about 62.5.

Late pity, lost last 50/50

You are at pity 80 on the Character banner with 15 pulls left, and you lost the previous 50/50. The guaranteed toggle is on, which means the next 5-star you roll is guaranteed to be the featured character. You are already deep in soft pity — per-pull rates are climbing above 35% — and you will hit hard pity at pull 90 regardless. The calculator reports ~99.9% chance of getting the featured 5-star. In practice this is the safest scenario in the game: a lost 50/50 plus deep pity is the textbook definition of a free featured character.

Weapon banner with Epitomized Path

You are at pity 0 on the Weapon Event banner with 160 pulls (25,600 Primogems) and you have selected your target weapon in the Epitomized Path with 0 Fate Points. Because soft pity on weapons starts at 63 and hard pity is 80, you will trigger at least one 5-star in your first 80 pulls. If it is your chosen weapon, you are done. If it is the other featured weapon, you earn 1 Fate Point — and the next 5-star is forced to be your chosen weapon. If it is a standard 5-star, you earn nothing (no Fate Point) and keep pulling. Even in the worst chain, 160 pulls is the documented hard ceiling to guarantee your chosen weapon.

Mid-banner budget check

You are at pity 45 on the Character banner with 8,000 Primogems (50 pulls) and no guarantee. The calculator projects your pity to 95 total, which is past hard pity. Chance of any 5-star is 100%. Chance of the featured character is about 55% — essentially one 50/50 roll. If you lose, you will need another budget for the featured. A typical plan is to wait until you can afford ~90 more pulls (the failsafe cycle) before committing — that pushes your overall odds past 95%.

Tips for planning your Genshin pulls

  • Read your verdict as a planning signal, not a promise. Below 40% means you should probably save Primogems for another cycle. 40-70% is coin-flip territory — commit only if you are fine with losing. Above 70% is a green light for most players, and above 90% is when you should definitely pull now.
  • Always push through soft pity. Stopping at pity 50 or 60 wastes the steepest part of the rate curve. From pull 74 onward your per-pull odds climb by roughly 6% each pull, so the last 17 pulls of a cycle account for more than half of the expected 5-star probability. Budget for the full 90-pull cycle or do not start.
  • Treat a lost 50/50 as banked value, not a loss. Your next featured 5-star on that banner is now guaranteed. Two full hard-pity cycles (180 pulls, 28,800 Primogems) are the theoretical ceiling to 100% guarantee any Character Event unit, and most runs finish well short of that.
  • Capturing Radiance is a quiet 10% discount, but do not bank on it. It upgrades a lost 50/50 to the featured character without you noticing a loss. Across many banners it shifts your true featured rate from 50% to roughly 55%, which is real over a year of pulling but barely moves the needle on any single banner.
  • On the Weapon Event banner, always select a chosen weapon in the Epitomized Path before you pull. Wishes made without a charted course do not accumulate Fate Points, so you lose the 1-Fate-Point failsafe entirely. This is the single most common weapon-banner mistake.
  • Convert your Primogems carefully. 160 Primogems equal 1 Intertwined Fate, which equals 1 wish. A hard-pity cycle on the Character banner is 90 pulls, or 14,400 Primogems. A worst-case featured guarantee is 180 pulls, or 28,800 Primogems. Keep these two numbers memorized and budget against them directly.
  • Do not pull reactively on the Standard banner. It has no featured unit, no 50/50, and no pulls-back-better mechanic. Use Acquaint Fates on the Standard banner only when you have them sitting unused — never trade Intertwined Fates for Acquaint Fates.
  • Re-check your pity counter in the in-game wish history (Wish → History) before you trust any third-party tracker. The game shows your exact 5-star history and lets you count pulls back manually. Our calculator is only as accurate as the pity number you type in.
  • We've all been pity 85 at 50/50 and watched a standard 5★ walk in. The failsafe exists for exactly that — your next featured pull is guaranteed. Don't rage-stop mid-cycle.

Frequently asked questions about Genshin pity

What is soft pity in Genshin Impact?

Soft pity is the steep climb in 5-star drop rate that starts at pull 74 on the Character and Standard banners and at pull 63 on the Weapon banner. Per-pull odds jump from 0.6% to roughly 6.6% at the start of soft pity and keep climbing by about 6% per pull until they hit 100% at hard pity.

What is hard pity in Genshin Impact?

Hard pity is the pull at which a 5-star drop is guaranteed. It is pull 90 on the Character and Standard banners, and pull 80 on the Weapon banner. If you reach hard pity without any 5-star dropping, the next wish is automatically a 5-star.

How does the 50/50 work on the Character banner?

When you pull a 5-star on the Character Event banner, there is a 50% chance it is the featured character. If you lose the 50/50 and get a standard 5-star, the next 5-star you pull on an event banner is guaranteed to be the featured character. Since Version 5.0, Capturing Radiance adds a 10% chance to silently upgrade a lost 50/50, making the effective odds 55/45 in your favor.

How many pulls do I need to guarantee the featured 5-star?

On the Character Event banner, 180 pulls (28,800 Primogems) is the worst-case cost to guarantee any featured unit: up to 90 pulls for the first 5-star, plus up to 90 more where the failsafe forces the featured. On the Weapon Event banner, 160 pulls (25,600 Primogems) is the worst case thanks to the 1-Fate-Point Epitomized Path.

How many pulls does a 5-star take on average?

On the Character banner from pity 0, the average number of pulls to your first 5-star is about 62, and the average to your first featured 5-star (accounting for the 50/50 failsafe) is about 93 pulls. These numbers match the figures published by Keqing Mains and the community 260-million-pull dataset.

Is this Genshin pity calculator free to use?

Yes. The calculator is completely free, runs entirely in your browser, and requires no login. Nothing you enter is sent to a server, and we do not track or store your pity counter or wish history.

How accurate is the Genshin pity calculator?

It uses the exact per-pull probability curve documented by HoYoverse and validated by community research (Keqing Mains, the 260M-pull dataset, and silvoid's analytic calculator). The math engine is cross-checked against Monte Carlo simulations of 100,000 trials per scenario and matches published figures within 0.3%.

Does Capturing Radiance apply to the Weapon banner?

No. Capturing Radiance only affects the Character Event banner. The Weapon banner uses the Epitomized Path instead, which gives you 1 Fate Point each time you pull a featured 5-star that is not your chosen weapon, and 1 Fate Point is enough to force your chosen weapon on the next 5-star.

Does pity carry over between banners?

Yes, between banners of the same type. Your Character Event pity carries across different Character Event banners (but not to the Standard or Weapon banner). Your guaranteed status also carries over. The Weapon and Standard banners keep separate pity counters. Fate Points, however, reset when the current Weapon banner ends or when you pull your chosen weapon.

What is the difference between Intertwined Fate and Acquaint Fate?

Intertwined Fates are used on Character Event and Weapon Event banners — the limited banners where featured units live. Acquaint Fates are used only on the Standard banner, which has no featured unit. Each fate costs 160 Primogems and equals one wish. Do not trade Intertwined Fates for Acquaint Fates, because you can only exchange in one direction and the conversion wastes limited-banner value.

Genshin Impact gacha glossary

Pity

The counter of how many wishes you have made since your last 5-star on a given banner. It resets to 0 every time you pull a 5-star, featured or not.

Soft pity

The steep ramp in 5-star drop rate that starts at pull 74 on the Character and Standard banners (pull 63 on the Weapon banner), where odds climb by roughly 6% per pull until hard pity.

Hard pity

The pull at which a 5-star is 100% guaranteed: pull 90 on the Character and Standard banners, pull 80 on the Weapon banner.

50/50

The rule on the Character Event banner that a 5-star drop has a 50% chance of being the featured character. Lose the 50/50, and the next 5-star on that banner is guaranteed to be the featured one.

Failsafe (guaranteed)

The mechanic that converts a lost 50/50 into a guaranteed featured pull on your next 5-star. The "guaranteed" toggle in the calculator represents this state.

Capturing Radiance

A Version 5.0+ mechanic that gives a 10% chance to silently upgrade a lost 50/50 to the featured character, effectively shifting the featured rate from 50% to about 55%.

Epitomized Path

The Weapon Event banner's chart-a-course system. Select one of two featured weapons, and after pulling a featured 5-star that is not your chosen weapon you gain 1 Fate Point, which guarantees your chosen weapon on the next 5-star.

Fate Point

A counter unique to the Weapon Event banner. As of Version 5.0, 1 Fate Point is enough to guarantee your chosen weapon. Points reset when the banner ends or when you pull the chosen weapon.

Primogem

The premium in-game currency used to buy Fates. 160 Primogems equal 1 Intertwined Fate or 1 Acquaint Fate, which equals 1 wish.

Intertwined Fate

The wish item used on limited banners (Character Event and Weapon Event). 1 Intertwined Fate = 1 wish on those banners.

Constellation (C0-C6)

A character's upgrade tier. C0 is the base character, and each duplicate 5-star pull unlocks the next constellation up to C6 (full constellations). Weapon equivalents are refinements R1-R5.
